IAB Data Centre
CReAM staff administer a remote data access point for German administrative data held by the IAB.
The Research Data Centre (FDZ) of the German Federal Employment Agency (BA) at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) provides access to micro data on the labour market for non-commercial empirical research. While this data is located at the Institute for Employment Research in Nuremberg, Germany, the Department of Economics at UCL hosts a secure access point in Drayton House for researchers wishing to use FDZ data. This data centre is managed by CReAM.
The data centre allows researchers access to a range of FDZ datasets on individuals, households, and establishments. Individuals’ detailed employment histories, sourced from social security and employment agency records, are available from 1975 onwards. The FDZ also provides establishment-level survey and administrative data on German employers, including linked employer-employee data. If you wish to make use of FDZ data, you must first apply to the FDZ for permission to access the specific datasets of interest. Approved researchers may then organize a research visit to the UCL data centre by contacting economics.iab@ucl.ac.uk. The centre is located in Drayton House, 30 Gordon Street, WC1H 0AX, London, and is open limited hours.
